Egypt midfielder Mohanad Lashin picked up a rib injury during the Pharaohs’ goalless draw with Angola on Monday, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has confirmed.

The Pyramids FC player featured in Egypt’s final group match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after head coach Hossam Hassan made several changes to his starting lineup.

According to the EFA, medical examinations revealed that Lashin will follow a rehabilitation programme as the team works to have him fit in time for Egypt’s round-of-16 match scheduled for Monday, January 5, 2026.

Lashin was forced to leave the pitch in the 63rd minute after suffering the injury and was replaced by Mohamed Shehata.

Egypt had already sealed qualification for the knockout stage before the match, having recorded wins over Zimbabwe and South Africa in their earlier Group B fixtures.

The draw against Angola saw Egypt finish top of the group with seven points, one ahead of South Africa, who edged Zimbabwe 3-2 in their final match.

The Pharaohs will now face one of the best third-placed teams from the other groups when the knockout phase begins.
