England-Ghanaian midfielder Kobbie Mainoo demands for winter exit from Man United over limited playing time

England international of Ghanaian descent Kobbie Mainoo is pushing for a winter move away from Manchester United as his frustration over limited playing time continues to grow.

The 20-year-old midfielder has struggled for minutes under manager Ruben Amorim, finding himself on the fringes of the squad since the start of the 2025/26 season. Mainoo had already requested a summer move in search of regular football, but the club refused to sanction his departure.

According to sources, Mainoo is now renewing his push for a January exit, determined to secure more consistent playing opportunities elsewhere.

Manchester United, however, are expected to delay any decision until after the African Cup of Nations in mid-January due to uncertainty surrounding the availability of Cameroon’s Bryan Mbeumo and Ivory Coast’s Amad Diallo, both of whom could be absent for the tournament.

Mainoo was an unused substitute for the fourth time this season during United’s 1-1 draw with West Ham United on Thursday night. He is yet to start a Premier League match this campaign, intensifying concerns about his development and future with the England national team ahead of the World Cup.

Despite blocking his summer transfer request, Amorim has continued to use the English-Ghanaian midfielder sparingly. So far, Mainoo has accumulated just 171 Premier League minutes, along with a full 90-minute outing in the Carabao Cup against Grimsby Town.
