Swindon were beaten by Port Vale on penalties but Ghana’s Number One custodian Josep Wollacot was an unused substitute.

The recent rise in the number of pitch invasions has been worrying to see and there was more problems on Thursday night as members of the Swindon Town squad appeared to be attacked by a number of Port Vale fans.

Vale supporters celebrated following their 6-5 penalty shoot-out win to take the Valiants to within a game of being promoted to League One.

After losing the first leg 2-1, the home side took an early lead on the night thanks to James Wilson and levelled the tie on aggregate.

Neither side could be separated over the rest of the game meaning the outcome had to be decided in a straight shoot-out between the two.

Both sides went to the wire, taking the spot kicks to sudden death before Robins defender Ellis Iandolo missed from 12 yards, securing Vale’s trip to Wembley Stadium.

There were two separate altercations during the pitch invasion

But the night was marred as fans appeared to be embroiled in an altercation with a number of Swindon players during the pitch invasion.

Stewards rushed over to the centre circle to initially break up the exchange but as the players were ushered towards the tunnel, another altercation then broke out.

A number of Swindon players were once again pulled away from the fans and eventually made their way back down the tunnel.

Despite the pleas form the Port Vale PA announcer inside the ground, fans remained on the pitch as they continued to celebrate with the Valiants.

Port Vale will face Mansfield Town for a place in League One on Saturday May 28.
