English League One side Leyton Orient FC, have announced the signing of England-based Ghanaian forward Dan Agyei.
Agyei joins the League One club on a two-year deal.
The Leyton Orient faced tough competition to land Agyei, 26, who comes in off the back of a very productive season for Crewe Alexandra.
The forward, who can play across the front three but favours being on the right, notched 16 goals and five assists playing for the Railwaymen last season, and was named the club’s Player of the Season.
The London-born attacker began his career at AFC Wimbledon, making a name for himself in the youth setup, and attracting attention from across the top of the football pyramid.
After joining Burnley for an undisclosed fee, Agyei joined then Sky Bet League One side Coventry City on loan, scoring on his debut, away at Bradford.
A successful loan stint saw Agyei return to the Clarets in the January transfer window, with the forward making his debut in the Premier League at Anfield as a late substitute.
Further loan spells at Walsall and Blackpool saw Agyei gain more experience in Sky Bet League One, before he made a permanent switch to Oxford United in the summer of 2019, turning down a contract offer to stay at Burnley.
After two seasons, Agyei made the switch back to the northwest, with Crewe Alexandra paying an undisclosed fee to secure his services.
Now, back in Sky Bet League One with the O’s, Agyei is excited to link up with his new teammates, and make an impression on the supporters.
“I’m the one that likes to dribble with the ball, beat players and create chances,” said Ageyi. “The fans are in for someone that will work hard, but also be a livewire on the pitch.”
“I like the way Orient played and the attackers had a lot of freedom, so coming here felt like a great fit.”
“He scores all different types of goals, using pace, power, a good left foot, and scores headers
Having been impressed with Agyei in the O’s three meetings with Crewe last season, Head Coach Richie Wellens was keen to land the forward, and add firepower to his front line.
“Of all of the opposition last year he was probably the standout player, and with a really good return in terms of 16 goals at Crewe,” said Wellens.
“He scores all different types of goals, using pace, power, a good left foot, and scores headers.”
“At 26 years old he’s at a good age, and we think he can kick on.”
Agyei is the O’s second new arrival this summer, following Max Sanders joining the Club on a two-year deal last week.
