Ghana international defender Alexander Djiku has thrown his support behind compatriot Kojo Peprah Oppong ahead of his expected move to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, describing the young defender as a quality signing with huge potential.
Peprah Oppong has emerged as one of the most talked-about Ghanaian defenders in Europe after an impressive season with French side OGC Nice, where he established himself as one of the club’s standout performers.
Speaking to Turkish publication Fanatik, Djiku, who previously represented Fenerbahçe, praised the 22-year-old’s performances and believes the move to Istanbul will provide the perfect platform for further development.
“He’s a good player. He had a really good season at Nice and was one of the team’s best players,” Djiku said.
The former Fenerbahçe captain highlighted Peprah Oppong’s physical qualities, confidence and ability to play out from the back, qualities he believes will suit the demands of Turkish football.
“He is athletic and comfortable with the ball. He is still young, so he has plenty of room to develop. I’m sure he will learn a lot at Fenerbahçe. I think he is a very good signing for the club,” Djiku added.
Djiku, who spent two seasons at Fenerbahçe before moving on, also wished his fellow Ghanaian success at the club while reflecting on his strong relationship with the passionate Fenerbahçe fanbase.
The potential transfer represents another major step in Peprah Oppong’s rapid rise in European football. At just 22 years old, the Ghanaian defender has already gained valuable experience in Ligue 1 and is now set for a new challenge at one of Turkey’s biggest clubs.
