English League One outfit Northampton Town have announced the signing of Ghanaian Tariqe Fosu Henry on a one year contract, ahead of the start of the 2024/25 season.
The 28 year old began his career at Reading before moving to Charlton Athletic for an undisclosed fee, making 57 appearances and scoring eleven goals for the Addicks before moving to Oxford United for an undisclosed fee where he scored eight times in 25 games.
His next stop was Brentford after a £750,000 release clause in his contract was met where he scored five times in 50 games, including playing in the Championship play off final in both 2020 and 2021, indeed he was a regular in the side in 2020/21 as he helped the Bees in to the Premier League, being nominated for the January 2021 Championship player of the month award.
In 2022/23 the Ghanaian international enjoyed loan spells with both Stoke City and Rotherham United, playing 39 times in the Championship during the campaign.
Fosu was set to join Turkish Super League club Hatayspor in 2023 but the move didn’t materalise and he spent last season on trial in the MLS and training with former club Charlton Athletic.
“Tariqe has a lot of ability and quality and we are really pleased to welcome him to Sixfields,” said manager Jon Brady.
“He has pace and is very good on the ball and has the ability to play in a number of positions across the pitch.
“He has played a lot of his football at Championship level and his pedigree speaks for itself.
“Tariqe is a creative, attacking player and we think he is someone who can help take us forward and as such we are sure all supporters will join us in welcoming him to the club.”
