Ernest Nuamah marked his long-awaited return from injury on Sunday, featuring in Olympique Lyonnais’ 4-2 win over Stade Rennais in Ligue 1.

The 22-year-old winger had been out of action since April 2025 after suffering a serious ACL injury, a setback that ruled him out for over a year. After 391 days on the sidelines and missing 54 matches, he finally made his comeback, coming on late in the game to play the final minutes at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

Although his involvement was brief, the appearance marked a major milestone in his recovery journey, bringing an end to a challenging period of rehabilitation.

Nuamah’s return is a timely boost for the Ghana national team as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in United States, Mexico, and Canada. Before his injury, he played a key role in Ghana’s qualification campaign.

With fitness concerns surrounding Mohammed Kudus, Nuamah’s comeback provides added depth and optimism in attack for head coach Carlos Queiroz.

The winger is now expected to gradually rebuild his match fitness, with hopes high that he will play an important role for both Lyon and Ghana in the months ahead.
