Ghanaian winger Ernest Nuamah and his Olympique Lyonnais teammates have been rewarded with a triple winning bonus following their impressive victory over OGC Nice. The players learned of the reward after the match through a video call between club president John Textor and team captain Alexandre Lacazette.
The match had an intense buildup, fueled by a heated exchange between the presidents of both clubs. John Textor openly criticized his OGC Nice counterpart, Jean-Pierre Rivère, accusing him of contributing to divisions within French football.
“Jean-Pierre Rivère, at least, is an honest man, he admits the shameful collusion against OL. Another proof of division, at a time when the League needs to be united,” Textor expressed on Instagram, voicing his frustration.
His remarks were linked to the controversial treatment of Thiago Almada, who was eventually substituted for Jean Veretout.
Following Lyon’s victory, Textor celebrated the team’s performance with another post: “Football, a game that is played on the pitch! Go OL!”
On the field, Rayan Cherki broke the deadlock in the 78th minute, and five minutes later, Nuamah secured the win with a second goal. Both goals were set up by Almada, the player at the center of the pre-match controversy.
Nuamah is now expected to be named in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar next week.
