Former Black Stars midfielder Charles Kwame Takyi has been reappointed as the assistant coach of Schalke’s U-19 team in Germany.

Initially appointed in 2019, the 38-year-old was nearing the end of his contract, set to expire in June. However, due to Takyi’s impressive contributions, Schalke has decided to extend his stay.

Takyi, who was born in Accra, Ghana, relocated to Berlin with his family at a young age. He obtained German citizenship and represented Germany at various youth levels, including U-15, U-16, U-17, and U-18, before making his senior international debut for Ghana in 2011.

Unfortunately, his Ghanaian national team career was brief, with only three appearances over the course of a year.

After retiring from professional football in 2018, Takyi focused on building a coaching career.

His dedication and hard work in his coaching role have been recognized by Schalke, resulting in the extension of his contract as the assistant coach of the U-19 team.
