18-year-old Zubairu Ibrahim, the former captain of Ghana’s U20 team and currently playing for Montenegrin club Jedinstvo, has been added to Ghana’s U-23 squad for their upcoming AFCON qualifier against Algeria.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko believes that Zubairu’s talent and skill will strengthen the team’s attack as they prepare to face Algeria.
Despite his young age, Zubairu has made a strong start to his career at Jedinstvo, having scored three goals and provided two assists in just seven games.
The two-legged tie against Algeria will determine if Ghana will qualify for the 2023 CAF U23 Cup of Nations.
The first leg will take place in Annaba on March 24, with the second leg scheduled for March 28 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The victorious team will join seven other teams for the tournament in Morocco in November 2023.
