At just 22 years old, English-born Ghanaian midfielder Kwaku Oduroh has officially retired from professional football. The former Manchester City and Derby County player made the announcement on social media, marking the end of his journey on the pitch.
Oduroh, who has been without a club since parting ways with Derby County in July 2024, did not give a specific reason for his early retirement. However, in a heartfelt message shared via Instagram, he expressed peace with his decision and excitement for what lies ahead.
“To everything there is a season, this day marks the end of one and the beginning of another,” he wrote.
Reflecting on his football career, he added, “This good thing has come to an end, I bid the game farewell with my head held high, grateful for the bonds that were built and for the experiences that many could only dream of. I take with me priceless lessons of old into a new future.”
With a spiritual tone, Oduroh continued, “I see this new thing the Lord is doing and so I can speak with peace and joy as I embrace my purpose beyond the pitch ready to embark on this new journey.”
He concluded his message with a hopeful note: “Here is to a new beginnings, a new day and a new dawn.”
Oduroh spent his formative years at Manchester City, where he developed through the youth ranks before moving to Derby County in 2022. During his time there, he went on loan to lower league clubs Rochdale and Hartlepool to gain first-team experience.
Throughout his youth career, Oduroh enjoyed success, winning the English U18 league twice and adding an U21 Cup title to his name.
