Joseph Amoako has submitted a formal request to Asante Kotoko for the termination of his contract, Sportsworldghana.com can exclusively report.
The former winger of Helsingborgs IF is currently under an indefinite suspension imposed by the Porcupines, stemming from an altercation he had with a club supporter on Facebook a few months ago.
At the age of 20, Amoako has reached out to Kotoko’s IMC (Interim Management Committee) expressing his desire to end his contract and depart from the club as a free agent.
Having initially joined Kotoko on a three-year agreement from lower-tier team Young Red Bull FC at the commencement of the 2021/2022 season, Amoako’s promising journey took a detour. He showcased his potential during a productive stint in the lower leagues before his elevation to Kotoko.
The young talent’s debut season commenced on a high note, contributing four assists within the first five matches. However, his progress with Kotoko was impeded by persistent injuries.
Amoako managed just two appearances in the 2021/22 season before embarking on a loan transfer to Swedish side Helsingborgs IF.
Following a challenging phase abroad, Amoako returned to Ghana in March 2023 after his release from prison in Sweden. His wrongful conviction for rape led to a months-long investigation, ultimately resulting in his acquittal and release to rejoin his club in Ghana.
During his loan spell in Sweden, Amoako encountered difficulties in securing playing time, participating in only ten matches and accumulating a total of 295 minutes of play across all competitions for the club.
