The Black Stars Technical Team lead by Chris Hughton, is closely following West Bromwich Albion forward Brandon Thomas-Asante and could soon hand him a debut international call-up, sportsworldghana.com understands.
Born in Milton Keynes, England, the 24-year old forward, has capped twenty-nine- (29) games times this season in the English Championship for West Bromwich Albian, scoring seven goals in the process.
Asante has been one of the key performers for his club this season, especially with his impact in some key game after coming on from the bench,
The Ghanaian technical team are hoping to add him to the Black Stars’ attacking machinery ahead of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast once he maintains his fine form.
Thomas-Asante began his career with Milton Keynes Dons, where he made his professional debut aged in 2016 aged 17. After spells on loan with Sutton United and Oxford City, he left Milton Keynes in 2019, spending a short spell at Ebbsfleet United before signing for Salford City.
While at Salford, he won his first trophy, the 2019–20 EFL Trophy.
On 31 August 2022 he signed for EFL Championship club West Bromwich Albion on a three-year contract for a fee reported to be in the region of £300,000, rejecting a move to Birmingham City.
In a recent interview, Asante insisted that his teammates are “more motivated than ever” to succeed this season and secure a spot in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs.
The Ghanaian striker said: “The last two games have been really encouraging. “What we want to achieve is certainly there for the taking and we just need to keep doing what we need to do.
“We’re more motivated than ever to keep going.
“We’ve been in much worse positions than the one we’re in now and we’ve come back from them and the fans have been with us all the way through.
“I know there’s been some frustrating times this season, but there’s also been some really good ones too. We want more of the good feelings and we want to take this momentum that we’ve built over the last two games into our final few fixtures.
“We’ve stuck together really well which is a skill we’ve learnt over the course of the season. We’re a lot more resolute than what we were at the start.
“There’s a togetherness within the group which I believe is a key ingredient for success towards the end of campaign, along with a lot of other aspects.
“The more we can stick together as players and as a club as a whole, the better chance we have of achieving what we want to achieve which is to finish in the top six and have a shot at promotion.
“We know results elsewhere have been kind to us recently but all we can do is focus on ourselves and make sure we get the results we need without having to worry about other scorelines.” He concluded.
