Former Asante Kotoko striker Eric Kwabena Bekoe is on the verge of being named Assistant Technical Director of the club.
He will collaborate with Malik Jabir, the current head of the Technical Directorate, to oversee key aspects of the team’s development.
Bekoe, who currently serves as head coach of lower-tier side Wa Sore Nante SC, will also take on responsibilities for supervising Kotoko’s youth team on a daily basis. This move is seen as part of Kotoko’s efforts to strengthen its technical structure and nurture talent for the club’s future.
The decision to appoint Bekoe comes after Malik Jabir acknowledged the physical demands of travel have become increasingly challenging for him as he advances in age. Despite this, Jabir remains committed to Kotoko’s progress, emphasizing that he will still play a central role in the team’s technical operations.
“Due to my age, I will not be able to travel with the team on long journeys. I will have an assistant to handle those tasks where I can’t accompany the team,” Jabir stated, reaffirming his dedication to the club.
Eric Bekoe enjoyed a remarkable career with the Porcupine Warriors after joining from Heart of Lions in 2007. During his time at the club, he scored an impressive 42 goals in 48 matches before moving to Petrojet in Egypt. Bekoe’s prolific scoring record and strong connection with the club’s supporters make him a popular choice for this role.
Kotoko recently secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over their arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in the season’s first Super Clash, courtesy of a last-minute goal from Albert Amoah. The win propelled Kotoko to sixth place in the Ghana Premier League standings, tied with Medeama SC on 21 points.
As the second transfer window opens, Kotoko is actively looking to bolster its squad to remain competitive in the title race. The team’s next challenge will be an away fixture against Dreams FC on Matchday 14 at the Tuba AstroTurf.
