Ghana Premier League giants, Hearts of Oak, have secured the services of Dutch coach Rene Hiddink as their new Technical Director, according to Opoku Afriyie (Pkay) of Kumasi FM.
The seasoned coach, who is the brother of former Chelsea and Netherlands coach Guus Hiddink, has already finalized the deal and is set to lead the Phobians’ technical team.
Following a challenging 2022/23 season where the club finished 12th in the Ghana Premier League, Hearts of Oak are determined to bounce back and contend for the title in the upcoming season, aiming to dethrone Medeama. Recognizing the importance of bolstering their technical department, the club’s hierarchy has agreed to bring in the experienced Dutch international.
At 68 years old, Rene Hiddink brings a wealth of football knowledge and experience to the table. He began his career as a professional football player with De Graafschap in Holland, sharing the field with his brother, Guus Hiddink. Afterward, he ventured into coaching, serving as an assistant coach at FC Dordrecht in Holland for nearly five years.
Although the Board of Directors, led by Togbe Afede XIV, is yet to officially confirm the news, insiders reveal that the appointment of the new Technical Director is imminent.
Rene Hiddink is expected to commence his role with Hearts of Oak on August 1, 2023, and his arrival is seen as a crucial addition to support the team’s ambitions.
