Ghana Premier League side, Hearts of Oak have reached an agreement in principle with King Faisal to sign centre-back, David Oppong Afrane, Sportsworldghana.com can exclusively report.
Pending the finalization of the agreement, the proposed fee is around $50,000. The talented defender, who also represents the Black Meteors, is in the final stages of negotiations with the Phobians, with personal terms expected to be settled in the upcoming days.
At just 20 years of age, Oppong Afrane has showcased remarkable performances that have captured the interest of several clubs. Hearts of Oak views his potential addition to their roster as a substantial boost to their prospects in the national league, and they hope his presence will enhance their chances in continental competitions as well.
This move is aimed at filling the void left by Konadu Yiadom, who recently made a transfer to Ukraine’s Kryvbas Football Club.
Having emerged as one of the standout talents during the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season, the young center-back has become a sought-after prospect among various clubs. Hearts of Oak has emerged as the frontrunner in securing his services, having formally inquired about his availability from King Faisal.
In the previous season, Oppong Afrane showcased his skills in 22 appearances for King Faisal, contributing two goals and earning two MVP accolades. His impressive showings also led to his inclusion in the Black Meteors squad for the recently concluded U23 AFCON tournament.
Despite his commendable defensive efforts, King Faisal faced relegation and is set to compete in the Access Bank Division One League in the upcoming season. For Oppong Afrane, a potential move to Hearts of Oak represents a thrilling opportunity to continue his development at a higher echelon of the sport.
