Manchester United scouts have ‘watched’ highly-rated Dutch-born Ghanaian youngster Jayden Addai who plays for Jong AZ, prompting suggestions the club could be lining up a move for his signature.
Football Transfers, reports United scouts attended AZ’s UEFA Youth League clash with Molde last week. Addai scored AZ’s second goal to help them clinch a 4-3 win in Norway.
United are always on the hunt for young and emerging talent and it is claimed that Addai is the latest youngster to have caught their attention. Addai, who predominantly plays on the right, is one of the most exciting young players in Dutch football.
The 18-year-old, who has been on AZ’s books since 2016, has been in terrific form so far this season, scoring 10 goals and registering four assists in just 13 appearances for AZ at youth level. He has scored nine goals and got two assists in 12 league outings for the Under-21s this term.
Rising through the AZ ranks, making a name for himself in just about every age group, it will surely not be long before he is pushing for his first-team debut for the club. He scored 16 goals in all competitions at youth level last term, meaning he is already close to matching that tally this time around.
Addai, who is the second-highest goalscorer in the Dutch second tier this season, is under contract at AZ until June 2025. As a side note, Addai scored the opening goal in last season’s UEFA Youth League final, helping AZ beat Hajduk Split 5-0 to win the trophy.
Meanwhile, Getafe ‘plan to open talks’ with United about the possibility of signing Mason Greenwood on a permanent deal. That is according to a report by The Sun, which claims the Spanish club want to turn his loan move into a permanent one.
Greenwood, who turned 22 last month, joined the La Liga outfit on a season-long loan deal in September after being informed he would be unable to continue his career at Old Trafford. He has made 10 appearances for Getafe so far, scoring three goals and grabbing three assists.
Though the forward is under contract at United until 2025, Getafe want to try and prize him away much sooner. It is claimed they are keen to start discussing the prospect of a permanent deal with the Reds sooner rather than later.
Greenwood last played for United in January 2022. The club made the decision to send him out on loan at the very end of the summer transfer window following an internal investigation into the allegations made against him on social media in January 2022.
