Samuel Boadu, the former head coach of Hearts of Oak, has made a move to lower-tier side Kumasi Cornerstone FC, taking on the role of their new head coach for the upcoming season, Sportsworldghana.com can exclusively report.

His primary objective is to lead the team back to the National Division One League after successfully securing promotion back into Division Two during the last two seasons.

Having earned recognition as the coach of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League champions, Boadu has signed a one-season contract with Cornerstone FC, with the aim of guiding the “Obeye yie” club back to the second tier of Ghanaian football.

Currently, Samuel Boadu is also managing the national U20 side after parting ways with Hearts of Oak.

Kumasi Cornerstone FC holds a significant place in the history of Ashanti Region football, being the oldest existing football club, established in 1931. The club boasts an impressive record, having been crowned FA Cup champions twice (in 1959 and 1965) and clinched the Telecom Gala title in 1997, along with being 1998 WAFU Championship winners.

Throughout the years, Cornerstone has contributed to Ghanaian football’s talent pool, nurturing some of the finest players, including the former African Footballer of the Year, Abdul Razak. Other notable players produced by the club include Stephen Frimpong Manso, Emmanuel Amoah, Malik Jabir, and Sampson Appiah.

During the 1970s and ’80s, the club enjoyed its heyday as one of the biggest teams in Ghana. Unfortunately, mismanagement issues have caused the team’s decline, pushing them down to the lower tiers of Ghanaian football.
