The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed Swedish coach Pierre Persson as an assistant coach for the Black Queens ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Persson joins head coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s technical team as Ghana steps up preparations for the continental showpiece, bringing extensive experience from more than a decade working in women’s football.
The Swedish tactician is currently serving as head coach of Finnish club Åland United and has built an impressive career holding several key roles since 2010, including head coach, sporting director, club director and general manager positions within Sweden’s top women’s football leagues.
His appointment follows an invitation from compatriot Björkegren, who identified Persson as a valuable addition to the Black Queens’ backroom staff ahead of the upcoming tournament.
Persson is expected to focus on improving Ghana’s tactical organisation, ball possession and passing efficiency while working closely with Björkegren and fellow assistant coach Anita to strengthen the team’s overall performance.
