Asante Kotoko’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, has hit back at suggestions that the club’s current management has failed, despite going through a period without winning any major trophies.
Speaking to Akoma FM, Duku argued that describing the club’s recent seasons as a failure is “too harsh,” insisting that expectations surrounding Kotoko’s history and stature often create unrealistic pressure.
“Failure would be too harsh. Maybe it’s because of the expectations and stature of Kotoko,” he said. “You can’t always expect to win the league every season. But finishing in the top three or so cannot be described as failure.”
Kotoko, one of Ghana’s most decorated clubs, has not lifted a major title under the current leadership, a fact that has led to increasing criticism from some sections of the fan base. However, Duku believes the team’s competitive performances and consistent finishes near the top of the Ghana Premier League table show that the club is still progressing.
His comments come at a time when supporters are demanding a stronger push for silverware, especially as arch-rivals Hearts of Oak and other contenders continue to strengthen their squads.
Duku reaffirmed that the club remains committed to restoring Kotoko to its traditional glory, emphasizing that success in football must be judged over time, not season by season.
