Former GFA Communications Director, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, is urging Ghana’s national team selectors to consider recalling forward Bernard Tekpetey, whose standout performances in the Bulgarian league have impressed observers.
Tekpetey last played for the Black Stars during the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) but has since been overlooked despite consistently strong showings.
In light of the Black Stars’ recent struggles, Sannie Daara believes Tekpetey has proven he deserves another chance, particularly given the squad’s ongoing issues in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
“I think we should broaden our selection criteria to include not only players from the top European leagues but also those excelling in other strong leagues,” Sannie Daara shared with GHOne TV. “For how long will this young lad keep excelling in Bulgaria without recognition? Just because he plays in Bulgaria shouldn’t be a reason to overlook him.”
With Ghana’s AFCON qualification hopes hanging by a thread after securing only two points from their first four games, Tekpetey’s addition could bring a needed spark.
The Black Stars will aim for their first victory when they face Angola on Friday, in a must-win game to revive their campaign.
