Sylvester Nii Saban Quaye, popularly known as Saban Quaye, has passed away after a prolonged illness, bringing to an end a distinguished career in Ghana football administration.

The former team manager of both Hearts of Oak and the Black Stars was widely respected for his discipline, leadership and decades of dedicated service to the game. He played a key role during some of Hearts of Oak’s most successful years before later serving in a similar capacity with the national team and holding administrative positions at other clubs, including Legon Cities.

In recent years, Saban Quaye had withdrawn from football activities due to health challenges. During his illness, he acknowledged the unwavering support of his wife, Deborah Quaye, and encouraged footballers and administrators to prioritise regular medical check-ups.

His contributions to Ghana football were recognised by the Ghana Football Association, which supported his medical treatment through its Foundation.

His passing has been met with deep sadness across the football fraternity, with many expected to pay tribute to a man whose dedication and commitment left a lasting impact on Ghana football.
