Gremio forward Francis Amuzu has revealed his strong desire to play for Ghana, expressing deep affection for his country of birth as the Black Stars prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Born in Ghana before moving to Belgium at the age of two, Amuzu is the son of a former Ghanaian footballer, Theophilous Amuzu, who also played in Belgium.

The talented winger began his football journey inspired by his father’s career and has since carved out an impressive path of his own.

“My father is an ex-footballer. He played in Ghana before moving to Belgium when he got a contract there. I started to play football since I got the blood from my father,” Amuzu told Brazilian journalist Rodrigo Oliviera of Radio Gaucha and the Zero Hora newspaper in Porto Alegre.

The 24-year-old attacker, who has previously represented Belgium at U19 and U21 levels, says Ghana remains close to his heart despite growing up in Europe.

“Yes, Ghana remains my first country. I have been there and also have some contacts with the family. So, I love Ghana. I am a Ghanaian since I was born there,” he said.

Amuzu, who joined Brazilian giants Gremio this season, has made a bright start – scoring two goals and providing one assist in 14 Serie A appearances.

His performances have drawn attention, and he now hopes his form could earn him a call-up from Ghana coach Otto Addo.

“I am happy they (Ghana) qualified for the World Cup. The World Cup is a wonderful tournament – one of the biggest football competitions in the world. I am happy for Ghana,” he continued.

“To be honest, my heart is in Ghana. If Ghana comes, for sure, I will go. I hope they can invite me but for now, my concentration is at Gremio, to try and perform well in every game.”
