Stade Rennais, a prominent French Ligue 1 club, has officially secured the services of Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu in a noteworthy €11 million deal.
The versatile 23-year-old, previously with Clermont Foot in the same league, successfully underwent mandatory medical examinations upon his return from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Seidu, a Black Stars representative, inked a four-year contract, binding him to Stade Rennais until 2028. The club made the announcement on Monday night via social media, sharing the news with fans alongside an engaging video.
“The Ghanaian defender joins SRFC until 2028. Degemer mat Alidu!”
Known for his versatility, Seidu can adeptly play as both a centre-back and a right-back. Fans eagerly anticipate his potential debut in the upcoming home game against Montpellier on February 3rd.
His arrival comes at a crucial juncture for Stade Rennais, currently positioned 10th in Ligue 1 and aspiring to achieve consistency that propels them towards European qualification.
Despite a limited role in the 2023 AFCON, where Ghana exited in the group stage, Seidu’s addition is poised to bolster the team, addressing areas that have drawn criticism and led to the dismissal of coach Chris Hughton.
