English legend Gary Neville believes former Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien has not been well appreciated.
Neville stressed that Essien was the heart beat of Chelsea during his first three years but his name is not mentioned among the club’s greatest players.
‘A player that played at a top Premier League club and didn’t get the plaudits of others was Michael Essien at Chelsea in those first two or three years. The impact he had on that team, from his running ability, the energy from midfield, balancing of Frank, I thought Essien was a brilliant player.’ Neville mentioned
Essien spent eight years at Chelsea and 256 appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing twenty assists.
