Former Ghana Football Association Vice President, George Afriyie, has urged fans to manage expectations for the Black Stars, stressing that expanding the technical team does not automatically improve performance.
His comments come after the GFA announced five new appointments to the senior national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The additions include French coach Alain Ravera and Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren as assistant coaches, Spanish strategist Jose Daniel Martinez Alfonso for scouting and analysis, Carlos Lozano Romero returning as physiotherapist, and British-born Ghanaian performance coach Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi completing the setup.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Afriyie noted: “Ghanaians should temper their expectations for the Black Stars at the World Cup. Having more hands on board doesn’t automatically improve the team’s prospects.”
The Black Stars are scheduled to regroup in March for friendlies against Austria and Germany as part of preparations for the tournament. Ghana, making its fifth World Cup appearance, will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, 2026, face England on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
