German-born Ghanaian centre-back Steffen Nkansah has joined Bundesliga 3 side FC Erzgebirge Aue on a two-year deal ahead of the 2022-23 football league campaign.

The former TSG Hoffenheim youth defender joins the Erzgebirgsstadion outfit on a free transfer following the expiration of his deal with fellow lower division side FSV Zwickau in the just ended season.

A statement from the ‘Purple and White’ confirming the capturing of the ex-German U19 youth star reads:

“FC Erzgebirge Aue has announced another and thus its ninth newcomer for the new season in the 3rd division. Steffen Nkansah (26) signed a contract with the purple-whites until June 2024.

The defender, who was born in Münster, is 1.88 m tall and was most recently under contract with future third division and local rivals FSV Zwickau, before that with Eintracht Braunschweig.”

Nkansah featured in 31 league games for FSV Zwickau during the 3.Liga 21/22 football season.

The Munster-born guardsman is still eligible to play for Ghana at the international level having featured for the Germany U16, U17, U18 & U19 national youth teams.
