German-Ghanaian forward Ragnar Ache played a decisive role as FC Köln secured a much-needed 3-1 victory over SV Werder Bremen, ending a frustrating eight-game winless run in the Bundesliga.

Köln made a bright start at the RheinEnergieSTADION, taking the lead in the first half through Saïd El Mala’s early penalty to go into the break with a narrow advantage.

However, with the game still delicately poised, Ache stepped up in the second half to provide the breakthrough his side needed. The 27-year-old striker finished clinically in the 65th minute to double Köln’s lead, capping an impressive all-round performance leading the line.

Werder Bremen attempted to mount a comeback when Romano Schmid converted from the penalty spot with just over 15 minutes remaining, setting up a tense finale.

Despite the pressure, Köln held firm and put the game beyond doubt deep into stoppage time when goalkeeper Mio Backhaus inadvertently turned a cross into his own net, sealing a deserved win for the hosts.

Ache’s contribution once again highlighted his growing importance to Köln’s survival push this season. The striker now boasts seven goals and four assists in 27 Bundesliga appearances, underlining his consistency in a challenging campaign.

The victory lifts morale within the Köln camp and provides renewed belief as they continue their fight to climb away from danger. Attention now turns to their next league fixture against FC St. Pauli on Friday, April 17, where Ache will once again be key to their attacking ambitions.
