Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Oduro Sarfo, has encouraged Berekum Chelsea’s in-form forward, Stephen Amankona, to remain focused and continue working hard to improve his game.
In the wake of goalkeeper Benjamin Asare’s impressive performances for the Black Stars during the March international break, there have been increasing calls for more local players to be included in the national team. Among those frequently mentioned is Amankona, who has been in fine form in the Ghana Premier League.
However, Oduro Sarfo believes that while the 24-year-old is performing well, he should not be rushed into the senior national team.
“I believe he is doing well, having scored 10 goals in the ongoing GPL, but we have players like Inaki, Semenyo, and Jordan Ayew. Do you want him (Amankona) to sit on the bench at Black Stars? He is now with the local Black Stars and scored the team’s only goal against Nigeria,” he told Akoma FM.
He further advised Amankona to remain patient and continue proving himself.
“He should keep scoring goals; I learned he was on the standby list, so we don’t need to push him. I have personally told him that he should rest; his time will come, and he will flourish,” Oduro Sarfo added.
