The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has described Ghana’s absence from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as a painful experience, especially considering the country’s rich football history.

Speaking on the issue, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum admitted that it was not easy watching the tournament without the Black Stars, a four-time AFCON champion.

“It was an unhappy moment watching the AFCON without Ghana, a four-time champion with a proud legacy,” he told Kumas-based Akoma FM.

However, Asante Twum noted that the setbacks suffered by the national team in recent years have provided valuable lessons. He explained that the disappointments of the 2022 and 2025 periods have helped the football authorities and technical team reflect and plan better for the future.

“Despite the setbacks of 2022 and 2025, we have learned lessons and are now focused on the World Cup,” he added.

According to him, the current priority is to rebuild confidence, improve performance, and ensure that Ghana returns stronger on the global stage, with full attention now on World Cup qualification and preparation.
