Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has expressed his surprise at the underwhelming performance of the Black Stars during their 1-1 draw with Niger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The match, which took place on Monday, marked Ghana’s second qualifier for the upcoming AFCON tournament. Despite their status as four-time African champions, the Black Stars struggled to impress, leaving Asante Twum stunned by the display.
In an interview with Akoma FM, Asante Twum shared his disbelief at how poorly the team performed. “I cannot believe how poor we were on the day and how ordinary the team was in our game against Niger,” he said.
However, Asante Twum was quick to dismiss suggestions that the current crop of Black Stars players lack commitment. “I do not buy the ideology that these players are not committed,” he stated, while still coming to terms with the team’s lackluster showing.
Looking ahead, the Black Stars will aim to regroup and improve their form as they prepare for a crucial double-header against Sudan in the next round of AFCON qualifiers.
