The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has distanced itself from Chairman Kudjoe Fianoo’s recent call for the impeachment of Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku.
Following a meeting on Thursday, October 24, 2024, GHALCA’s Executive Council (EXCO) clarified that Fianoo’s statements about ousting the GFA President do not represent the views of the association.
Fianoo recently voiced dissatisfaction with the GFA leadership, citing the Black Stars’ struggles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as a primary issue. However, GHALCA leadership is concerned by what they describe as Fianoo’s divisive stance and his attempt to involve GHALCA in destabilizing Ghana football administration.
In an official statement, GHALCA stated: “GHALCA wishes to dissociate itself from the recent interview granted by the Chairman of the Association, Mr. Kudjoe Fianoo.” While the association respects Fianoo’s right to share personal opinions, they emphasized a “thin line” between his personal views and statements made on GHALCA’s behalf.
The EXCO also recalled a recent meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth and Sports, led by Fianoo, where GHALCA presented solutions to support the improvement of Ghanaian football. They reaffirmed their commitment to constructive efforts rather than divisive actions.
Addressing speculation of plans to remove Fianoo, GHALCA clarified, “The EXCO has no intention to stage a coup against him for expressing his personal views on recent happenings in Ghana football.”
Under Kurt Okraku’s administration, the GFA has been working on systematic solutions to restore Ghanaian football after past challenges, including the 2018 Anas exposé that shook the sport. GHALCA’s statement underscores a call for unity among football stakeholders to advance Ghana’s football renaissance.
