In a pre-season friendly held in the United States, Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo scored late, helping AFC Bournemouth push Arsenal to a penalty shootout. Semenyo’s powerful left-footed strike deflected off Ben White’s legs, beating Arsenal’s goalkeeper Karl Hein and leveling the score. Arsenal had initially taken the lead with Fabio Vieira’s first-half goal.
Semenyo, who came on at the start of the second half to replace Marcus Tavernier, proved a constant threat to Arsenal’s defense. Despite their efforts, Arsenal’s backline struggled to contain him.
After Semenyo’s late equalizer, the match proceeded to a penalty shootout, which Arsenal won 5-4. Phillip Billing and Ryan Christie missed their penalties for Bournemouth.
Thomas Partey, Semenyo’s compatriot and fellow Black Stars teammate, started the match for Arsenal and played for 62 minutes before being substituted by Italian midfielder Jorginho.
Additionally, English-born Ghanaian youngster Daniel Adu-Adjei was introduced for Bournemouth, coming on for Milos Kerkez.
Upon their return to England, Semenyo and his Bournemouth teammates are set to face Rayo Vallecano at Vitality Park.
