Ghana’s captain, Andre Ayew, really wants to win the Africa Cup of Nations. The Black Stars captain says he’s been dreaming about it since his first time in 2008, even though he’s been in the tournament eight times and came second in 2010 and 2015.
Getting ready for the first match against Cape Verde in the 2023 AFCON, the 34-year-old from Le Havre is super excited about winning the title. Ayew shares, “Since I started in 2008, I’ve always wanted to bring the trophy home. We always hope for it, but we can’t guarantee it.”
Knowing that the tournament is unpredictable, Ayew talks about the team’s plan, saying, “What we can do is give our best every day, in every game, take our time. We’ve seen teams win this tournament unexpectedly, and also teams that were expected to win did.”
Tonight, the Black Stars start their journey against Cape Verde at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan. The game begins at 8 pm.
