Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has outlined specific conditions for the possible return of team captain Andre Ayew to the national squad. The 34-year-old forward, who has been without a club since his contract with Le Havre ended, has not been included in the Black Stars’ roster for the past two international breaks.
According to Addo, Ayew needs to secure a new club and demonstrate strong performance, including scoring 20 goals, before being considered for a recall to the national team.
“Andre Ayew is a good player, but at the moment, he is not here. He doesn’t have a club, but nobody knows the future,” Addo explained during the squad announcement for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger. He added, “If he gets a club and performs and scores 20 goals, maybe he can return because we are building something for the future.”
Ayew’s absence from recent call-ups reflects a shift in focus as Addo looks to build a team for the future, while leaving the door open for Ayew’s potential return based on his future performances.
