Ghana Could Pay Over $1 Million to Otoo Addo – Dan Kweku Yeboah Warns

Veteran sports journalist Dan Kweku Yeboah has criticized the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over its handling of coaching appointments and dismissals, warning that the country could face a huge financial burden following the reported termination of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo.

Speaking during a panel discussion on United Showbiz, Dan Kweku Yeboah questioned the timing of the decision to part ways with the German-born trainer, who had successfully guided Ghana to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to the experienced broadcaster, dismissing a coach under contract could expose the country to significant compensation claims.
“It will cost us about one million dollars to pay off Otto Addo,” he stated. “Otto takes about $50,000 every month, so if he has one year left on his contract, you will have to calculate that amount. Add wrongful dismissal, and if he gets a good lawyer, he can get over one million dollars from Ghana.”

Otto Addo’s reported dismissal comes on the back of heavy defeats against Australia and Germany in international friendly matches, just two months before the start of the World Cup. Despite securing qualification for Ghana’s fifth appearance at the global showpiece, the recent results are believed to have influenced the decision to part ways with the coach.

Dan Kweku Yeboah further lambasted the football authorities for what he described as poor planning and inconsistency in handling technical appointments, arguing that such decisions often end up costing the nation financially.
