Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association, is advocating for the introduction of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the second round of the Ghana Premier League campaign.
This push follows a productive meeting between the Ghana FA and the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) held last week. The two-day conference, conducted on Thursday and Friday, featured insights from FIFA experts Inokuchi Takaaki and Michael Bailey, who shared their knowledge on VAR technology and its procedures.
In an interview, Referees Manager and VAR team leader Alex Kotey reiterated Okraku’s commitment to implementing VAR in the second half of the Ghanaian top flight, which is set to resume in January 2025.
Okraku remains confident that VAR will significantly enhance officiating standards in the Ghana Premier League. Meanwhile, the Ghana FA is awaiting FIFA’s official approval to proceed with the implementation of VAR in the country’s domestic leagues.
