Ghana international Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer has completed a move to Bundesliga side Mainz ahead of the 2026/27 season, taking another major step in his growing career in German football.
The 24-year-old striker joins Mainz after an impressive spell with Hamburger SV, where he played a key role in the club’s successful campaign last season. Königsdörffer made 33 league appearances and scored five goals as Hamburg battled strongly throughout the Bundesliga campaign.
Born in Berlin but representing Ghana internationally, the forward has steadily developed into one of the most energetic and versatile attackers in German football. Prior to his time at Hamburg, he also enjoyed productive spells with Dynamo Dresden, gaining valuable experience across Germany’s top divisions.
Across his professional career with Hamburg and Dresden, Königsdörffer has registered 29 goals in 130 appearances, earning praise for his pace, physical strength, and ability to trouble defenders in transition.
Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert expressed confidence in the Ghanaian’s qualities following the announcement of the transfer.
“Ransford Königsdörffer is a fast and physical striker whose style of play fits very well into our attack,” Bungert said.
“He has developed into a regular Bundesliga player over recent seasons and still has plenty of room for further improvement.”
Königsdörffer also shared his excitement after completing the switch, revealing that discussions with the club convinced him to accept the new challenge.
“I’m really looking forward to this new chapter in Mainz,” he said.
“The coach and sporting directors explained their plans clearly to me, and I was very impressed by the project.”
The move represents another important milestone for the Black Stars forward, who will now aim to establish himself as a key figure in Mainz’s attack ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign.
