Asante Kotoko climbed to the summit of the league table with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Accra Lions at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday.
The decisive moment came in the 48th minute when Albert Amoah found the back of the net, skillfully converting Dauda Saaka’s precise out-swinging cross.
This victory marked Kotoko’s second consecutive win, highlighting their strong form early in the season. The Porcupine Warriors dominated the match, controlling 55% of possession and registering 17 attempts on goal compared to the Lions’ five.
Kotoko managed to put four shots on target, while Accra Lions only tested Kotoko’s goalkeeper on two occasions. Despite the slim margin, Kotoko’s superiority was evident, as they showcased a disciplined defensive display to maintain a clean sheet.
With this win, Kotoko sits at the top of the table, tied on points with Bibiani Goldstars but leading on goal difference. Their next challenge will be against Legon Cities as they aim to preserve their position at the summit. Meanwhile, Accra Lions continue to struggle this season and will look to turn their fortunes around in their upcoming fixture against Berekum Chelsea.
Kotoko fans will be optimistic that their side can carry this momentum forward in the weeks to come.
