FC Ashanti Gold and Asante Kotoko played out a 1-1 draw in a fiercely contested Ashanti Derby at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi on Sunday afternoon.
The Matchweek Eight encounter in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League produced two spectacular long-range goals, with Samuel Fosu Boateng putting the hosts ahead before Patrick Aseidu equalised for the Porcupine Warriors in the second half.
The game remained evenly balanced during the opening stages, with both sides looking to gain control and create clear scoring opportunities.
FC Ashanti Gold eventually broke the deadlock in the 41st minute when Fosu Boateng unleashed a long-range effort that took a deflection inside the Kotoko penalty area before finding the back of the net.
The goal gave the home side a crucial advantage heading into the break, leaving Asante Kotoko with the task of mounting a response after the interval.
Kotoko returned for the second half with greater urgency, pushing forward in search of an equaliser. The introduction of Walid Fuseini and forward Solomon Nsoh added fresh energy to the visitors’ attacking play as they gradually increased the pressure on the hosts.
Their persistence paid off when Adam Inusah was brought down just outside the penalty area, earning the Porcupine Warriors a free-kick in a promising position.
Left-back Patrick Aseidu stepped up and delivered a powerful strike that beat the goalkeeper to restore parity for Kotoko. The stunning effort brought the visitors back into the contest and set up an intense finish at the Len Clay Stadium.
With the score level, Asante Kotoko pressed forward in search of a winning goal, but FC Ashanti Gold remained organised at the back and successfully dealt with the visitors’ attacking threats.
The home side also created opportunities to reclaim the lead but failed to convert their chances, ensuring that the two teams settled for a share of the points after an entertaining derby.
The result takes Asante Kotoko to 12 points after eight matches in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League, while FC Ashanti Gold maintained their unbeaten home record in the competition.
Both teams will take positives from the encounter, although Kotoko may reflect on missed opportunities to secure all three points, while Ashanti Gold will be encouraged by their resilience against one of the league’s traditional powerhouses.
