Bechem United have secured their Ghana Premier League status after an impressive 3–1 victory over Asante Kotoko at the Nana Gyeabour Park on Sunday.
Going into the penultimate game of the season knowing that only a win would guarantee survival, Bechem delivered a determined and clinical performance to move clear of the relegation battle.
Former Kotoko forward Augustine Okrah inspired the home side with a brilliant brace, while Richard Dwamena also found the net as Bechem produced one of their most important wins of the campaign.
The hosts started brightly and took the lead in the 20th minute when Dwamena finished off sustained early pressure on the Porcupine Warriors.
Bechem doubled their advantage just four minutes later through Okrah, who punished a disorganised Kotoko defence with a composed finish.
The attacking midfielder struck again in the 36th minute to complete his brace, giving Bechem full control of the contest before the break.
Kotoko struggled to impose themselves for large spells despite arriving with ambitions of strengthening their top-four push.
Although the visitors improved after the restart and pulled one back in the 80th minute through Patrick Asiedu, their response came too late to salvage a result.
The defeat confirms Bechem United’s place in next season’s Ghana Premier League, bringing relief after a tense campaign, while Kotoko’s hopes of finishing strongly suffered another setback.
