Karela United FC emerged victorious over Real Tamale United in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday, proving themselves as the stronger team among the two Tamale sides.
The Pride and Passion lads secured their third consecutive home win with a 3-2 victory over their city rivals at the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex in Nalerigu.
Karela took an early lead in the 12th minute with a goal from forward Ibrahim Giyas. Giyas doubled the advantage for the home side in the 33rd minute, scoring his second goal in two home games.
Midfielder Baba Kushibo quickly leveled the score for RTU with two goals in succession, scoring in the 37th and 42nd minutes.
However, Karela didn’t give up and secured the match-winning goal just two minutes before full time, thanks to Solomon Aboagye.
Despite the victory, Karela remained in the 15th position on the league standings, just above the relegation zone. However, they have widened the gap to four points from the danger zone.
On the other hand, RTU’s troubles deepened with this defeat, as they continue to occupy the bottom of the league table with 19 points from 22 matches.
