Kelvin Oppong’s crucial goal denied FC Samartex their second win of the season, as Bibiani Gold Stars secured a 1-1 draw in a rescheduled Ghana Premier League (GPL) Matchweek 2 fixture at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex on Wednesday.
FC Samartex started strongly, coming close to opening the scoring through early efforts from Ephson and Afful, but both players missed the target. Bibiani Gold Stars attempted to respond in the 13th minute, but James Sewornu’s excellent defensive work neutralized the attack.
In the 27th minute, the home side was awarded a penalty after Michael Ephson was fouled in the box. Emmanuel Mamah stepped up and calmly converted the spot kick, giving Samartex a 1-0 lead.
After the break, Bibiani Gold Stars came out aggressively, with Ronald Frimpong sending in a dangerous cross to Attah Kumi, but once again, Sewornu was there to clear the threat. The visitors continued to press for an equalizer, dominating the second half with relentless attacks.
Their persistence paid off in the 75th minute when Kelvin Oppong scored to level the match, preventing Samartex from claiming all three points. The match concluded 1-1 after 90+10 minutes of play.
FC Samartex will now travel to Nalerigu to face Karela United, while Bibiani Gold Stars will host Bechem United at Dun’s Park in the next round of GPL matches this weekend.
