The Accra Sports Stadium has officially been approved to host Ghana’s crucial 2025 AFCON qualifier against Sudan on October 11, 2024.
The Group F clash will be the first of a doubleheader between the two nations, with Ghana sitting third in the group and Sudan in second place.
Ghana enters the game with just one point from two matches, following a 1-0 defeat to Angola and a 1-1 draw with Niger. Meanwhile, Sudan has three points after beating Niger and losing 2-1 to Angola.
The venue for the match had been in doubt until October 2, when CAF gave its approval for the Accra Sports Stadium to host the fixture. The stadium had come under heavy criticism for its poor conditions, but recent upgrades have brought it up to standard.
In a video released by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, facilities such as the washrooms, tunnel area, dugout, playing surface, dressing rooms, and referees’ area were showcased in much-improved condition following renovations overseen by Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif.
The match is expected to be a crucial test for Ghana as they look to secure vital points in their AFCON qualifying campaign.
