A last-minute header from Benedict Afful saw FC Samartex salvage a 1-1 draw against Accra Lions in a lively clash at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Friday night.
Accra Lions controlled the early stages, eventually taking the lead before halftime with a well-placed goal by Abdul Shakun Abubakar.
Accra Lions started with intensity, pressing for an early breakthrough as Mohammed Ali’s pinpoint pass found Blessing Asuman, whose lob narrowly missed the mark. Ezekiel Alladoh nearly struck first with a shot off the post, only to be flagged offside moments later.
Accra Lions’ efforts finally paid off as Abdul Shakun slotted in a precise cross from Fuzy Taylor just before halftime, giving the hosts a deserved lead. Shakun came close again early in the second half, almost doubling the score with a powerful header from a Baba Apiiga corner.
Samartex began to find their footing mid-second half, with Lord Adabo firing from long range for their first real chance. Substitute Lucky Nwafor nearly sealed the win for Accra Lions with two rapid chances, but the Samartex keeper denied both.
In a dramatic late twist, Afful soared to meet a cross, heading home to level the game and snatch a point for the visitors. The result leaves Accra Lions with a hard-earned point but denied them a much-anticipated home victory.
