Heart of Lions staged an impressive comeback on Sunday afternoon to claim a crucial 2-1 victory over Aduana Stars at the Kpando Sports Stadium, reigniting their Ghana Premier League title ambitions.
The victory ended a two-match losing streak for Bashir Hayford’s side and bolstered their position in the upper echelon of the league table.
With key forwards Kwadwo Obeng Junior and Abednego Tetteh unavailable, Hayford made tactical adjustments to his starting lineup. Despite dominating possession in the first half, the Lions struggled to convert their opportunities, and the teams went into the break level at 0-0.
The deadlock was broken early in the second half when defender Kwesi Pong found the back of the net, rewarding the Lions’ persistent pressure. Buoyed by the opener, the home side continued to dictate the tempo of the game.
Seedorf Asante doubled Lions’ advantage in the 78th minute with a composed finish, marking his first goal for the club and putting the result beyond Aduana’s reach.
Aduana Stars managed to reduce the deficit in the 85th minute through a well-taken strike by defender Alex Boakye, but the visitors couldn’t mount a late comeback.
The victory propels Heart of Lions to third place on the league table, just one point adrift of leaders Asante Kotoko. Aduana Stars, however, continue to struggle, dropping to 13th and teetering near the relegation zone.
Heart of Lions will look to maintain this momentum in their next fixture as they aim to stay in contention for the league title.
