Nations FC secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Asante Kotoko in a thrilling Matchweek 28 clash of the Ghana Premier League, with first-half goals from Nafiu Sulemana and Emmanuel Annor sealing their fourth straight win.
In a lively opening spell at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, it was Kotoko who threatened first when Patrick Asiedu’s deflected cross found Emmanuel Antwi, but the winger fired narrowly wide.
Nations FC responded swiftly and took the lead in the 15th minute. Nafiu Sulemana struck brilliantly from the left flank, curling the ball past goalkeeper Frederick Asare for the opener.
The Eagles nearly doubled their lead moments later after Emmanuel Antwi set up Albert Amoah, but his effort was denied by Kotoko shot-stopper Rabin Ousmane.
Just before the break, Nations FC made it 2-0 with a well-worked team move finished off by Emmanuel Annor from close range, giving the home fans more to cheer about.
Kotoko came out with purpose in the second half and nearly reduced the deficit when Emmanuel Antwi’s free-kick forced a save from the goalkeeper. Later, Faisal Charwetey’s low drive from a short free-kick went straight into the hands of Nations FC keeper Frederick Asare.
The result sees Nations FC solidify their second-place position with 51 points, maintaining pressure on the league leaders. Asante Kotoko, on the other hand, are now winless in their last four matches and drop to fourth place with 47 points.
