Asante Kotoko secured a league double over their fierce rivals Hearts of Oak this season with a commanding 2-0 victory at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday during week 31 of the Ghana Premier League.
In the first round, played in Kumasi, Asante Kotoko also triumphed with a close 3-2 scoreline.
In the latest encounter, Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala netted both goals, with the first coming just nine minutes into the game.
Mukwala showcased his skill by capitalizing on a brilliant overhead pass, maintaining his composure to finish despite being closely pursued by four Hearts of Oak defenders. He sealed the victory with a second goal late in stoppage time.
This win propels Asante Kotoko to ninth place with 43 points, while Hearts of Oak languishes in 13th place with 38 points, just four points above the relegation zone.
Looking ahead, Asante Kotoko will face Accra Great Olympics on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for their week 32 fixture.
