Premier League newcomers Young Apostles will be hoping to return to winning ways when they host high-flying Heart of Lions at the Wenchi Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The Wenchi-based side suffered a 2-0 defeat at Vision FC in their last outing and have managed just two wins, one draw, and two defeats from their previous five league matches. That inconsistent run has seen them slip to 13th on the league table with 37 points. Goals have been hard to come by for Abdul Rahim Bashiru’s men, who have netted a league-low 21 times while conceding 31, the joint fourth-highest tally.
Despite their struggles, Young Apostles have turned their home ground into a source of strength. Since losing 2-0 to Medeama SC in November 2024, they’ve gone ten home matches unbeaten, winning five and drawing five.
Heart of Lions saw their title charge momentarily stalled after a frustrating goalless draw away to Basake Holy Stars, ending their four-game winning streak. Still, the result extended their unbeaten run and ensured they remain firmly in the title race. The Lions are currently third on the league table with 54 points, just three behind leaders Nations FC, as the title race heats up.
Under the guidance of Bashiru Kwame Hayford, Lions have been a well-balanced unit, scoring 33 goals and conceding just 20, ranking among the league’s best in both departments. Their away form has also been solid, with two wins, a draw, and two losses in their last five matches on the road, including three clean sheets. They currently rank as the fourth-best away team in the division.
