In a thrilling encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Ghana’s football powerhouse, Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC, clinched a narrow 1-0 victory against reigning Ghana Premier League champions, Medeama SC, on a Sunday afternoon.
Facing a challenging series of matches, the Porcupine Warriors had only managed two victories leading up to this clash with the Mauve and Yellow.
The game kicked off with an impressive start from the Reds, notably with Steven Mukwala’s early strike narrowly missing the mark as it hit the post. Medeama responded, but Mohammed Kamaridini’s header was ruled offside.
The first half saw both teams maintaining defensive solidity, heading into halftime with a deadlock on the scoreline.
The narrative took a turn in the second half when the hosts were awarded a penalty. Georges Mfegue was fouled inside the box by Kamaradini, creating a pivotal moment. Midfielder Sheriff stepped up for the spot kick, executing it flawlessly and sending Felix Kyei the wrong way.
Despite falling behind, Medeama launched a relentless offensive, bombarding Asante Kotoko’s defense with attacks. However, the home team resiliently defended their lead, securing all three points as they held firm until the final whistle.
This was the first win for the Reds in six straight games in the ongoing 2023-24 Ghana Premier League campaign.
